Hello CMS Families,
This message is to communicate the launch of our At-Home Learning program with families. This builds on our efforts to engage students since schools were closed on March 13, and the initiative taken by many of our teachers to bring learning to students remotely through online platforms. Now we are bringing consistency and supports together to ensure all students can keep learning during this unprecedented time.
We are asking that students login to school district email, Google Classroom(s), and/or Canvas classroom(s), daily, as teachers will primarily use these platforms to communicate with students. We will utilize the following schedule to provide content, standards, or learning activities each day. Some resources have already been shared. Due to the timing of this notification, we plan to start with Math and Social Studies on Wednesday. We recognize that this schedule may not meet every students’ needs and understand there are exceptions; however, with strong communication, we hope we can make the very best of this unique time in education. Morning activities will be posted by 10:00 a.m. and afternoon activities will be posted by 1:00 p.m.
Here is a link to CMS Distance Learning Weekly Schedule complete with information on days grade level departments will be posting work, when work is due, how best to communicate with teachers, and a link to Zoom meeting schedule for specific classes!
If your student does not have what they need at home to be successful (Chromebook, workbook, etc.), please let me (brian.stadelman@rsd.edu), Assistant Principal Mitch Davis (mitch.davis@rsd.edu) or Assistant Principal Amy Salinas (amy.salinas@rsd.edu) know as soon as possible. We will be available from 12:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday of this week, in order to get you the materials needed for at-home learning. We are unable to allow anyone into the building but will retrieve the materials for you. Please do not come to the building before 12:30 p.m. as meals are being prepared for delivery from 6-12 each day. The district has created a tech support hotline and email address specifically for students and family use during school closures: (509) 967-6162 and ChromebookHelp@rsd.edu.
Charter/Spectrum is offering free internet for students at home. Families without a current Charter/Spectrum account need to call 1-855-757-7328 and mention they would like to access the two free months of internet service. Families who already have an account should call 1-855-253-7692. The customer service reps will guide them through next steps to access free internet.
If you or your student have questions specific to a class or teacher, please contact the teacher directly. Teachers will be checking their emails and other platforms daily. Any other questions, please reach out to the administrators, counselors, or case managers for assistance. We want you to know we are all available and willing to help in any way we can.
Thank you for your grace and patience as we work through this remarkable time together.
Sincerely,
Your CMS Staff
